What's New at Disneyland...1993

If you were looking through National Geographic in May 1993 you'd notice a fun advertisement for Disneyland! If you were looking through the May 1993 National Geographic in April 2008 as a big Disney fan...you'd find a cool, interesting advertisement and start devouring it up. That's what happened to me. (Thanks to Werner Weiss's Yesterland.com (love the site) you can click the links for more info on the defunct atractions.)

Here it is!

Vacation magic is in the air!

Follow the fun to Disneyland Park,
home of the colorful new cartoon
land, Mickey's Toontown. Capture the

catch the spark after the dark with
the fiery Fantasmic!,
and the classic Main Street
Electrical Parade. With more than
55 attractions and Disney Characters,
the fun never sets!

Aladdin's Royal Caravan and Fantasmic!

So there it was! What cool stuff. A look at a Disneyland with lots of new things...it's fun to see when Fantasmic! and Toontown were new, again.

Nine Lives Ran Out...

The last living Nine Old Men has been lost today. Natural causes; Ollie Johnston passed away this morning at a long-term care facility in Sequim, Washinton.
He was amazing. It's a sad loss for his family and it makes us feel sad...but think how happy he must be to join his wife and his best friend, Frank. Let our prayers go out to his family.
If you haven't read their book...get it. Honor him by watching the movies he worked on. Let us, celbrate his life in our own ways. It looks like Walt Disney Studios is having a celebration of his life. The Funeral services will be private.

"it's a small world" Opening Date?

On my trip around Disneyland Park on it's own Railroad I passed through "it's a small world" (with all views constricted of the construction with a green sheet only opening for shrubs along the way to get sun.) Our lady traveling along with us announced that ""it's a small world" is currently under refurbishment and will be open on Nov. 29th as "it's a small world" Holiday."

Well CM's don't know everything, but....

Front and Center: "it's a small world" and Toy Story (Midway?) Mania

There has been an uproar about the changes WDI is hoping to do to "it's a small world" at Disneyland Park. I am one of the people who does not support these changes at all. We need to keep classics...classics and keep true to the rides original notions. If you don't support it or you do support it I think we're all looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

So far, it could go both ways....

"it's a small world" is currently down for refurb, revamping the flume to accomodate boats that have been grounding a little as the weight of our country increases. It is currently scheduled to start playing the song again in Nov. Maybe the refurb will go into early '09 if they go ahead with the afor mentioned changes. So, we don't know for sure when to expect that happy (although sometimes annoying) song, singing out in Disneyland Park.

The new, almost completed ride in DCA's Paradise Pier is getting some attention too. Recently the name sign for this Toy Story themed ride has been put up. The sign reads:

Toy Story Midway Mania
But wait...haven't we been expecting the name "Toy Story Mania" for a long while? And hasn't Disney (even recently too) been putting out press releases on the ride with that same name? But now, the sign says "Toy Story Midway Mania" which was the rides name in it's early conception and construction.
I have heard that on the map and advertising they are going to use the name "Toy Story Mania" but keep the sign how it is. I am personally VERY excited for this ride to open up so I can see just a little bit of what we should be expecting within the next years for Disney's California Adventure.

Has there ever been a Disney ride with two names?

Toy Story (Midway) Mania is almost complete with soft opening expected in late April. The Official Opening Ceremonies/Press events are scheduled for June 13-15.

EDIT: THE OFFICIAL OPENING DATE OF TSMM IS JUNE 17! Are you going to be one of the people migrating to Disneyland @ 5:00 in the morning? I hope I am...
